ADVENTURE RACE GEAR LIST
Preparing for an adventure race means more than training for speed and endurance — it means gearing up properly for the challenges ahead. On this page you’ll find the mandatory equipment every team and individual must carry to meet safety requirements and race rules, as well as suggested gear that can improve comfort, performance, and readiness for changing conditions. While we supply some items for the race (like canoes, paddles, and PFDs), the lists below are designed to help you plan and pack responsibly for rugged terrain, water crossings, biking, navigation, and long hours on the course. Carefully review all requirements and recommendations to ensure you and your team are fully prepared.
E
Personal Responsibility
You and your team are responsible for carrying suitable and appropriate equipment, clothing, and sustenance for the climate, conditions, and activities in any WARRIOR race. This Mandatory Equipment List is NOT a list of the only items you should take. It contains the mandatory things that you and your team must carry with you, at specified times, to meet minimum safety requirements by law, prevent and/or treat some potential injuries, and short-term survival purposes (for example a seriously injured team member, in a stationary position, overnight in bad weather). It assumes your team members will not separate during the race and that you may share between members the mandatory equipment that must be carried. You will undoubtedly need additional equipment, clothing, food, and drink to participate in the event.

Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of canoes/kayaks do we use?

Provided canoes:
14-ft Old Town Saranac 146 models with seat backs and a built-in center seat.

Provided solo kayaks:
10-ft TrailBlazer 100 sit-in models with seat backs.
Do you provide paddling gear?
We will provide all canoes, PFDs, and paddles for the races; however, teams are welcome to bring their own PFDs and paddles if they prefer. Please ensure that any personal paddling gear is secured in a paddle bag clearly labeled with your team name. We will be transporting all equipment and want to help prevent any lost items.
If I am competing as a soloist, may I paddle with another soloist in a canoe instead of using a kayak?
Teaming up in a canoe is only possible if sufficient canoes are available, and availability varies by race, so please confirm with the race director at check-in. Solo competitors may paddle together in canoes; however, they will be ranked below all other solo participants in the results. For example, if there are three solo racers and two team up in a canoe while one competes in a kayak, the soloist in the kayak will be ranked higher than the other two, regardless of their final time or how many checkpoints each competitor completes.
What kind of bike do I need?
A mountain bike is required for this race. Your bike may have front or full suspension, but it must feature flat handlebars (no drop bars) and wider tires suitable for rugged terrain. Gravel bikes are not permitted.
Can I wear my GPS watch?
Smartwatches are permitted in the event as long as they are in AR mode for the entire race.
D
Tracking
Most of our events utilize GPS trackers. These are for your safety, and so your family and friends can follow you at home. A link will be shared with you in the week before the race, as well as posted on the website. Please watch this video on how to use and wear your tracker.
